Assessing the transformation of the grid in the U.S.
The GridWise Alliance Grid Modernization Index Report

Since 2003, the GridWise Alliance’s vital voice has represented the diverse stakeholders that design, build and operate the electric grid, and has been at the forefront of educating legislators and regulators on the critical need to modernize America’s electricity system. One of the Alliance’s most significant and informative activities is producing the GridWise Alliance’s Annual Grid Modernization Index (GMI) report. The GMI report is very important, because it not only defines the attributes of grid modernization; it rates the individual U.S. states on their success in achieving these attributes. In this way, U.S. Federal, state and local governments – as well as all grid stakeholders – receive direct, comparative feedback on their grid modernization efforts.

Battery microgrid solution
For remote Alaskan town
Alaska's remote communities in the Arctic Circle are prime territory for battery storage and microgrids due to the region's high electric rates and isolation. One small electric association is taking advantage.

Getting ahead
Leaving leased lines for private wireless networks
Utilities have long used leased lines from public telephone companies to connect remote locations such as substations. However, with increased fees and possibility of discontinued leased line services, it’s time for utilities to start considering their options. One viable option is a private wireless network that offers the benefits of reliability, control and low (or no) operations and maintenance costs.
